COQ10 not as effective against Statin muscle pain as once thought!

Jan 28, 2015

Two recent articles have suggested that COQ10 does not prevent muscle pain caused by statin therapy. (Statins are those drugs commonly used to lower the persons cholesterol levels, brand names include: Crestor, Zocor, Lipitor, Pravachol and others.) Five different trials, comprising 302 patients, showed that COQ10 did not influence muscle pain during statin therapy. Another study included 41 patients who had muscle pain on a statin, but not on a placebo (sugar pill). These patients were then given a statin with COQ10 or a statin and a placebo and after eight weeks there was no difference in perceived pain within the two groups.
